Happy Winter! As we move closer to beginning a new year, it is time to start thinking about the upcoming session of the Arizona Legislature. Things will kick-off at the Capitol on January 13th with the Governor's State-of-the-State address. That evening, we will hold our first Citizen Lobby Workshop of the year in Phoenix (see details below). Our weekly legislative updates will begin on January 10th and will include committee calendars and any bills that may be on the agendas for the following week, plus opportunities for action. Throughout the legislative session, we will send you weekly legislative updates/alerts with at least one action per alert. If you would rather not receive these updates, just go to manage email preferences where you can add or remove these updates and other Sierra Club emails. If you have difficulties with it, just send me an email and I will make sure you get removed. On Tuesday, February 18, 2014, we will host Environmental Day at the Arizona Capitol. There are more details on that below and we will send out additional information on it early next year. Please plan to attend! Thank you for agreeing to be part of our lobbying/advocacy team by contacting your legislators and for speaking up for clean air, clean water, and this land we all love. Warm regards, Chapter Director Sierra Club – Grand Canyon Chapter (602) 253-8633 http://arizona.sierraclub.org |

Attend a Citizen Lobby Workshop Want to start the New Year off right? Interested in promoting clean energy and protecting Arizona’s air, land, and water? Please join us for this fun (yes fun) and informative workshop. Arizona needs more advocates who are willing to meet with legislators, city council people, county supervisors, and other officials who have enormous impact on our future and on what kind of legacy we leave for the next generation. The workshop runs two hours and covers the basics on the Arizona Legislature, how a bill becomes a law, how a bill really becomes a law, and Dos and Don'ts of Citizen Lobbying.
You can find out more and r.s.v.p by calling (602) 253-8633 or emailing sandy.bahr@sierraclub.org. |

Mark your calendar for Environmental Day at the Capitol On February 18, 2014, environmental advocates from around the state, new and experienced, will be gathering at the Arizona State Capitol to meet with state legislators to express support for rivers and streams, clean air, land conservation, and more. Come be part of one of our teams!
Everyone will be paired with an experienced leader and will be meeting with his or her own legislators, whenever possible. You can come for an hour or two or stay all day. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the legislative process and the issues and to make a difference. For more information and to get involved, contact Sandy Bahr at (602) 253-8633 or sandy.bahr@sierraclub.org. |
