It has finally happened. In many areas around the country, renewable energy projects (both wind and solar) are outcompeting fossil fuel projects. This marks a paradigm shift of monumental proportions and puts us in a position to be more agressive with our goals for transitioning to an entirely renewable sourced electrical grid. Michael Brune, Sierra Club's executive director, is boldly making the argument that our goal should be to have it done by 2030. That's just 16 years away, and we can do it! READ MORE HERE

2) It was the Worst of Times

Yes, the potential for drastically reducing carbon emissions is wonderful news. The bad news is that as awful as the most recent IPCC report on climate change was, it may have understated the risks of climate disruption drastically. How, why?! Well unfortunately, it failed to account for the growing threat of methane emissions, particularly from arctic permafrost and releases from the arctic seabed. You can read more about the sobering reality here.

3) With Christmas in Mind

It's hard to escape the ubiquitous sounds of holiday music and now with snow on the ground, procrastinating our Christmas shopping is no longer an option. Just in time, I have some suggestions for you. First for the do-it-yourselfer, check out this creative list of projects to build (hint: it's a great list for science projects for kids). Sierra Club itself offers even more goodies. Get your orders in now before it's too late!
