Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) The Steroid Analogy
2) Admitting the Obvious
3) RIPTA Asks for Snow Clearing Help
1) The Steroid Analogy
|
The big story of last week was the arctic blast that froze most of the country. Climate denier pundits took to the airwaves in droves to proclaim that global warming had officially been debunked. The Providence Journal published four different opinion pieces making the absurd argument that cold weather disproves climate science. Well, the good news is that they let me have the last word in the Sunday paper. Please take a moment to read my op-ed, which provides a good analogy for understanding the systems perspective we need to truly appreciate climate change. Then, share it with your friends.

2) Admitting the Obvious
|
As if to underscore my assertions, Rhode Island Officials held a briefing at the Statehouse to warn that the projected impacts of climate change on Rhode Island are worsening. EcoRI was there to cover the event. Get the low down here.

3) RIPTA Asks for Snow Clearing Help
|
Responding to calls by transit advocates and to this story in the Providence Phoenix, RIPTA has sent a letter to city and town officials asking for help in keeping bus shelters and stops clear of snow. Ask and you shall receive? Not so much. In order for our city and town leaders to take note of RIPTA's request, it is going to take action from us. If you notice that bus shelters in your area are going uncleared, please contact your town or city hall to complain that something needs to be done. You can cite this letter when and if they play dumb.
