Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) Let's Make Some Laws
2) To Restore the Renewable Tax Credit
3) It's Going to be Busy
4) Create A Municipal Divestment Initiative
1) Let's Make Some Laws
|
The General Assembly is back in session, and the early sentiment can only be classified as optimistic. The Governor has proposed a budget with bond initiatives that promise good things for our environment, and Speaker Fox has said that RIPTA funding is going to be a priority. Last week, House members even came out in force to support Massachusetts' transition to renewable energy. Civics is in indeed in the air, and the Providence Phoenix devoted a recent issue to Statehouse politics. I was happy to have the chance to contribute an article about citizen led legislating. PLEASE READ and SHARE.

2) To Restore the Renewable Energy Tax Credit
|
One of the many good ideas that could potentially become Rhode Island law in 2014 is the restoration of the Renewable Energy Tax Credit. We pushed hard for this bill last year, and it came close to passing. With strong leadership from its sponsor Representative Deb Ruggiero, we can be sure that it will get a good hearing again. PLEASE DO YOUR PART in helping it become law by sending support letters to your state lawmakers.

3) It's Going to be Busy
|
The Renewable Tax Credit is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to environmental bills. There is going to be a variety of legislation to support. RIPTA funding, a plastic bag ban (which you can support here), the We The People bill to say corporations aren't people (support here), the Governor's green bond initiatives, and the extension and expansion of the Distributed Generation program are just a few that leap to mind. There will also be bills that need to be fought. I hope that you will find some way to get involved in one or more of these battles.
