1) Growing RI's Solar Industry
The cost of solar panels has declinced dramatically in recent years at the same time that they have gotten more efficient at converting the sun's rays into electricity (or heat depending on the system). As a result there's never been a better time for us to invest in building a vibrant solar industry in Rhode Island. It might surprise you to learn that there are already a couple of good programs in RI to incentivize residential renewables. It might also surprise you that there are a couple of great renewable energy bills at the Statehouse that have a legitimate chance of passing this session. CLICK HERE FOR THE DETAILS

2) Prospects for Reducing Our Reliance on Cars
The good news for reducing the size of our carbon footprint doesn't stop with clean energy. This might well be the year that RIPTA gets the extra funding it needs to provide the transit service Rhode Island deserves. A comprehensive transportaiton bill has been introduced in both the Senate and House that would give RIPTA substantial new funds. It is bound to get a good hearing because it also negates the necessity for tolling on the Sakonnet Bridge. Even if this bill doesn't move forward this year, the RI Department of Transportation has taken a big step forward in implementing the Complete Streets Law, so it will be easier for us to build more walkable and bikeable communities. LET'S DO IT!
