Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) Last Chance to Comment on Keystone XL
2) Wednesday: Climate Forum at URI
3) Saturday: Plastic Bag Hunt
4) Final CRMC BIWF Hearing
1) Last Chance to Comment on Keystone XL
|
The State Department will be closing its comment period for its final environmenatl impact statement on the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline at the end of this week. Have you submitted your opinion yet? It doesn't have to be long or detailed (in fact we provide you with content that you can edit to your desires), JUST CLICK HERE AND MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
|
2) Wednesday: Climate Forum at URI
|
What are you doing at 7pm on Wednesday? If you can make it out to Lippitt Hall (rm. 402) on URI's Kingston Campus, I recommend it. The Rhode Island Student Climate Coalition, Fossil Free RI, and the URI Multicultural Center are hosting a climate forum. From rising sea levels to severe storms such as Hurricane Sandy and Winter Storm Nemo to record heat waves, floods, and droughts, the challenges posed by climate change are intensifying in Rhode Island, the U.S., and around the world. Forum speakers will outline the challenges of climate change for communities and governance and explore how Rhode Island can harness its creative capacity and unique assets to implement solutions that will improve the lives of all its citizens. Join the conversation and be part of the solution!

3) Saturday: Plastic Bag Hunt
|
Environment Rhode Island is leading the statewide initiative to ban plastic bags, and this Saturday they're putting on a neat event to highlight the need for the ban. It's a plastic bag scavenger hunt, and you're invited. DETAILS AND SIGN-UP HERE.

4) Final CRMC BIWF Hearing
|
The Coastal Resources Management Council's Ocean SAMP subcommittee held its third and final public hearing on the Block Island Wind Farm on Thursday. Like the other two hearings, more supporters turned out than detractors. The subcommittee will now hold a workshop to consider all the evidence and testimony that has been presented to them and then make a recommendation to the full council for action. We can be confident that they will move the project forward for approval, because in addition to public support, the CRMC staff gave the project a thumbs up. If all goes according to plan, construction could begin this Fall. READ MORE ABOUT THURSDAY'S HEARING HERE.
