Take Action: No Handouts to the Nuclear Industry
Last week we learned that the Department of Energy (DOE) granted a loan to Southern Company without requiring it to make a routine down payment.
Instead of acting responsibly to protect American taxpayers, DOE caved in to the demands of the giant Southern Company for free taxpayer money. This is simply unacceptable. You can't buy a house or a car without putting money down. Corporations shouldn't be so lucky, and DOE shouldn't be so reckless with taxpayer money.
Tell the Department of Energy no free handouts to the nuclear industry.
Take Action: Thank EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy for Standing Up for Science
On Monday, U.S. EPA administrator Gina McCarthy delivered a speech at the National Academy of Sciences. In her remarks, Administrator McCarthy rebuked critics who have been attempting to deny and discredit reputable, peer-reviewed science and research. As Administrator McCarthy spelled out, their efforts are really aimed at blocking the EPA from protecting our air, water, and lands. The EPA has been relentlessly attacked by pro-polluter members of Congress trying to cast a shadow of doubt over the agency's work.
Send Gina McCarthy a note to say thank you for defending sound science -- and to let her know we've got her back.
Grassroots Activism: Minnesota Rallies for Clean Energy
Sierra Club Minnesota joined a large coalition of organizations in rallying for clean energy and the climate on Earth Day. Hundreds of people gathered to talk about action on climate and clean energy in the North Star State, and 100 youth even met with Governor Mark Dayton before the rally.
Nice job, Minnesota!
Grassroots Activism: Protesting in St. Louis
Congratulations to Missouri Beyond Coal and the whole coalition of groups who attended and protested an Ameren shareholders meeting last week.
Clean energy lovers rallied outside while others attended the meeting to call on Ameren to move beyond coal.
