Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) The EC3 Report
2) Write a Letter to the Editor for Resilience
3) The National Climate Assessment
4) GoodNEWSRI
5) Be It Resolved
1) The EC3 Report
|
The Governor's Executive Climate Change Council (EC3) released its preliminary report on Thursday, and it's a testament to the commitment of DEM Director Coit who has driven the council from the outset. It validates all the hard work that we've been putting into the Resilient RI Act, and it even calls for the passage of resilience legislation this session. The report is online in two parts that you can read here: part 1 and part 2. The report will be finalized next week after a last chance for public comment. If you would like to offer comments to call for even stronger action, click here for details.

2) Write a Letter to the Editor for Resilience
|
After the release of the EC3 Report, the iron is hot, and it's time for us to strike with all our might. One of the best ways to make an impact is to write letters to the editor of your local papers. CLICK HERE TO WRITE A LETTER FOR RESILIENCE. You can cite the EC3 Report, the Obama Administration's National Climate Assessment, or just make it more general. Whatever you do, take action!
|
3) The National Climate Assessment
|
The Executive Climate Change Council's report was not the only pertinent report released last week. The Obama Administration released the Third National Climate Assessment as well. It underlines the need for local action by detailing the already serious impacts of climate change on the US economy. It's a big report, but it's very accessible. PERUSE IT AT YOUR LEISURE.

4) GoodNEWSRI
|
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of being asked to appear on GoodNEWSRI, a local cable access show that focuses on the good work being done in RI by local groups. With my colleague Drew Grande of Beyond Coal Massachusetts, we had a wide ranging conversation about the work of the Sierra Club. You can watch the first part here. The second half is coming soon.
|
5) Be It Resolved
|
Last week, North Kingstown became the first town in the State to pass a resolution calling on the General Assembly to pass statewide comprehensive climate legislation. This week Warwick and Bristol will consider similar resolutions. Will your town or city be next? You can help make it happen. Let me know if you're interested in contacting your local council about passing a climate resolution.
