Heroes Needed
The CT Chapter is in need of some heroes HELEN Heroes, that is. HELEN (helping environmental leaders engage neighbors) is the Sierra Club's database. HELEN Heroes help the CT Chapter get the right message to the right people, by putting essential data into the Sierra Club's database. For more information on how to become a HELEN Hero, click here.
Day of Action: We Said NO to Keystone/ YES to Clean Energy
On May 17, CT Sierra Club tabled for a "Say No to Keystone XL Pipeline/Yes to Clean Energy" Day of Action at the Ecofest in Milford, CT. Our event was one of over 100 National Day of Action events that Sierra Club chapters across the US organized and/or participated in. [Read more]
Legislative News
Several bills supported by the CT Sierra Club were passed during the 2014 CT Legislative Session. These include:
- SB 237 Fracking Waste - imposes a 3 year moratorium on imports or processing
- HB 5408 Utility Company Enhanced Tree Trimming Program - provides a better balance between tree cutting to preserve the grid and preserving our natural environment
- SB70 State Open Space Lands - helps preserve the state open space lands
- HB 5424 Water Planning - creates a process for developing the long overdue comprehensive water plan

Volunteers Needed to Make a Better World
The Chapter Political Committee every 2 years decides on endorsements for candidates running for office. This year we will look at the race for statewide offices (governor, AG) and for the state legislature (House and Senate). KAYAKING
On a perfect day for our 1st club outing, six of us put in at the sandy beach of the Essex Teal Lane public access and enjoyed few bugs, mild temperatures, and low winds. Click here for a recap and pictures of our trip.
