Rocky Mountain Power Wants to Impose a New $4.65 Monthly Solar Homeowner Penalty
To thousands of homeowners who thought they were doing the right thing for themselves and their communities by having solar panels installed to generate electricity, Rocky Mountain Power (RMP) is teaching the old lesson that no good deed goes unpunished. The homeowners are producing surplus electricity that the utility can buy back at a cheap price during the day when electricity demand is high and in the urban locations where that demand is located. But Rocky Mountain Power just can't let go of its monopoly grip and kick the dirty fossil fuel habit without an intervention by all of us. The Utah Public Service Commission will be ruling on RMP's outrageous request for the solar homeowner penalty. You have the chance to weigh in three ways!
If you haven't already signed our petition, tell the Public Service Commission that Utah needs to make the transition to clean, renewable energy sources and residential solar should not be deterred by a monthly solar homeowner penalty.
The Utah Chapter of Sierra Club has been at the forefront of the fight to move from dangerous dirty fossil fuels to clean sustainable energy.
- Killed new coal-fired power plants proposed near Delta, Richfield and Vernal.
- Supported & guided Governor Huntsman's Renewable Energy Goal of 20% electricity generation from renewable sources by 2025.
- Led the charge against a new coal strip mine at Alton near Bryce Canyon National Park's western boundary.
Now we're making the broadest possible case before the public and the Utah Public Service Commission in favor of renewable sources of energy such as solar, wind and geothermal. We need your help to keep this working going. Give as generously as you can.
