Take Action: Big Oil Must Stop Poisoning Communities
Grassroots Activism: A Successful Energy Conference in Texas More than 250 people attended the first-ever "Earth, Wind, and Fire Energy Summit" in Dallas, Texas, earlier this month. The Sierra Club Dallas Chapter organized the conference with a large coalition -- and said the conference sold out within days of its announcement. "The two-day conference Oct. 4-5 focused on all forms of energy -- coal, nuclear, natural gas, oil, wind, solar, geothermal, and waste to energy," said Rita Beving, conservation co-chair of the Dallas Group and coordinator of the conference. "The purpose was to inform the public beyond media 'soundbites' of what is going on currently with these forms of energy from both a national and state perspective, and what does the future hold for the potential use of all of these forms of energy. It also focused on the human and environmental impacts that these sources may have, be it from mining to transport." Grassroots Activism: The Realities of Fracking in Pennsylvania Sierra Club Beyond Natural Gas campaign staff and volunteers recently took to the air with EcoFlight to get a better picture of just how devastating the fracking process is to the state's public lands. "Make no mistake -- the forests of Pennsylvania are at risk of being degraded beyond repair," said Robert Gardner, of the Sierra Club Beyond Natural Gas campaign in Pennsylvania. "What we saw from the air is an ongoing disaster."
