The pollution has dramatically reduced visibility in the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. SIERRA CLUB APPLAUDS NEW EPA STANDARDS ON SMOG POLLUTIONUpdated Smog Safeguards Will Ensure Clean Air for Thousands of Oklahomans.

TULSA -- Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a new proposal for updated air quality standards for smog that will ensure cleaner air for millions of Americans. The EPA’s new proposal will lower the current smog pollution standard from 75 parts per billion (ppb) standard to one in the range of 65 ppb to 70 ppb, while also seeking comment on setting it as low as 60 ppb.... continue to read the full press release |
- December 11, 5:30 - 7 pm - OKC-Metro Energy Task Force Happy Hour!
It's time to celebrate the accomplishments in moving beyond coal toward clean energy that were achieved in 2014! We'll be hosting a happy hour in place of our monthly OKC-Metro Energy Task Force Meeting. Any and all (current/future) "Clean Energy Heroes/Coal Fighters" are welcome! The above image is the design for the yard signs we'll begin distributing ASAP to put pressure on OG&E to take their plan for complying with EPA safeguards back to the drawing board. You can hear more about this effort at the happy hour. You can also get your very own yard sign AND a Beyond Coal T-shirt on December 11th. Celebrate the return of the sunlight. Yes, there will be a few more long winter nights between now and Spring, but at least the days will only get longer from here. Come out to Apple Hill Farm. Hike the northern reaches of the Chichuahua Desert in Big Bend National Park. See vast stretches of desert, rugged border mountains and night skies so dark the stars jump out at you. Even in winter it is a forbidding place, but it is full of wonder and wildlife adapted for desert living. Click here for more information and to register!
- January 8, 2015, 6-8:00 pm - Kombucha Reskilling Class
Kombucha is defined by Wikipedia as a lightly effervescent fermented drink of sweetened black and/or green tea that is used as a functional food. It is produced by fermenting the tea using a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. The class will be taught by Whitney Womack and will incorporate information about other home fermentation practices, sustainability, urban homesteading, plant-based diets, and how to create harmony in the home by deepening our knowledge of the relationship between the land and the table. - April 11-18, 2015 - Upscale Camping in the Caribbean
They call it "glamping", and this group will spend a week doing just that. Glamourous camping at scenic Can Bay on St. Croix. We will stay in modern tent cabins, snorkel the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean, and make day excursions to sail, hike and generally explore the largest of the US Virgin Islands.
