"Buy Green to Save Green" Campaign
Initiative sponsored by Rep. Brian Baird (D-WA) encouraging consumers to spend their economic stimulus checks on energy efficient products and services. In addition to stimulating the economy, such purchases will save consumers money on their energy bills and help fight global warming. What's more, certain purchases might also qualify for state and federal income tax credits--effectively doubling the financial benefit of the stimulus payments. Congress is due to vote on Rep. Baird's resolution (H.Res. 987) endorsing the campaign and calling on retailers to promote the campaign and offer additional incentives for consumers who choose to spend their checks on energy efficient products and services. In additional to the more than 100 Members of Congress who have co-sponsored H.Res. 987, the campaign is supported by major retailers like Lowes and Home Depot and several additional national environmental organizations.
