On May 30, the White House finally released the report "Scientific Assessment on the Effects of Global Warming on the United States" -- thanks to the help of a court order.
According to the report, "Continued greenhouse gas emissions at or above current rates are expected to cause further warming and to induce many changes during the 21st century that will very likely be larger than those of the last century." Those further changes will impact temperature, precipitation and drought, snow and ice, sea-level rises, and hurricanes.
The report is very interesting, so go check it out! There’s even a short summary/fact sheet version.
World Environment Day
Thursday, June 5 is World Environment Day -- a huge international celebration that makes Earth Day look like a small backyard gathering!
This year's theme is, not surprisingly, global warming: "Kick the Habit: Toward a Low Carbon Economy." World Environment Day is sponsored by the United Nations Environment Program and started back in 1972, and this year Wellington, New Zealand, is the host city.
These days more than 100 countries celebrate the day! Why not get involved and do something good for the environment that day (and everyday)?
The Hotline, the Sierra Club's global warming e-newsletter, keeps you up to date on the fight to stop global warming. Every two weeks, you will receive an email with the information and tools to put real global warming solutions to work. |
