"See the Truth" Party with Al Gore
Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth continues to be a great way to educate folks about the realities of global warming. Now the Sierra Club is teaming up with Al Gore,, the League of Conservation Voters, and others to host thousands of "See the Truth" movie parties nationwide on Saturday, December 16th, at 7pm EST. Al Gore will speak to all the participants and answer questions on a conference call at the end of the screenings.

Heated Global Warming Arguments at the Supreme Court
The Sierra Club, along with a dozen other environmental organizations, and 12 states, argued before the Supreme Court last week in the case of Massachusetts v. EPA that the Environmental Protection Agency is compelled under the Clean Air Act to act to regulate carbon dioxide pollution that causes global warming. The Justices have until July 2007 to return a decision and, based on questions and comments from the Justices during the hearing, it looks to be a close decision. Here's an eyewitness account from Brendan Bell of the Club's Global Warming and Energy team. For an analysis of how the decision could profoundly affect all environmental policy in our nation, read Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope's blog entry "On a Knife's Edge."

Meanwhile, Back at the White House...
A big thanks to the nearly 10,000 of you who sent the message to President Bush that it's time to get serious about solving global warming. Lots of you even told your friends to do the same. But some quick math shows that we're only a fraction of the way to our goal of half a million emails. Either ten of you step up to the plate and forward this action to 49,000 friends apiece, or we all have to tickle our address books. Just forward this email to some friends and ask them to click on the Take Action button below!

And if you haven't had a chance to take action yet, now's the time: We want President Bush to acknowledge global warming and talk about real solutions in his upcoming State of the Union address. Remember, stranger things have happened: Last year, he admitted that our country had an oil addiction. Let's make lightning strike twice!

Button - Take Action

...And Over on Capitol Hill
It was just a few weeks ago that Americans cast their ballots in a call for a new direction on a number of fronts, including energy policy. It was the perfect opportunity to make a fresh start and to shelve bad ideas like offshore drilling.

Instead, it appears that Congress will indeed consider offshore drilling legislation -- during its lame-duck session. Every day and dollar that we spend on increased drilling is a day and dollar not spent on smart energy solutions that can last into an energy independent future. Take action TODAY to tell your Congressional representative not to vote for offshore drilling of America's coasts.

Stand Up Tall for Giant Sequoias
When Giant Sequoia National Monument was set aside by President Clinton in 2000, a promise was made to the American people that the natural treasures of that place would be protected forever.

Now Congress is threatening to break that promise with a law that threatens to destroy the last population of the threatened Pacific Fisher in the southern Sierra Nevada.

Please sign our petition to California's Senators asking them to help stop this bad legislation.
