"To finally spark the creation of a clean energy economy, we will double the production of alternative energy in the next three years. We will modernize more than 75% of federal buildings and improve the energy efficiency of two million American homes, saving consumers and taxpayers billions on our energy bills."

-- President-Elect Barack Obama, 1/8/09

1) Take Action: Protect Two Million Acres of Wilderness
Protect Two Million Acres of WildernessThe Senate will soon vote on a Public Land protection bill (S.22), which will permanently protect more than two million acres of wilderness, 1,000 miles of Wild and Scenic rivers, and establish the 26-million-acre National Landscape Conservation System.

2) Take Action: Tell Congress to Create a Strong, Clean Economy
Tell Congress to Create a Strong, Clean EconomyLast week, President-elect Obama presented a plan that advances clean energy technologies and investment in green jobs as key drivers for economic recovery. The plan is a win-win for a strong economy and a healthier environment.

As this plan moves to Congress, it is vitally important that the government focus on investing in newer, cleaner, more-efficient technologies and not waste money on costly, business-as-usual approaches like new coal plants, dams, or "bridges to nowhere."

Currents action alert arrowTell your member of Congress to keep this plan focused on the priorities that will provide short-term economic recovery and long-term economic stability and a cleaner, safer world.

3) Change: One Week LeftThank you, President Obama
With only one week left until the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, the excitement is palpable. President-elect Obama’s visionary agenda is setting the stage for big changes for our nation—and he wants input from you on what those changes should look like.

Check out our great new video, pledge your support and take a minute and join Pierce Brosnan and other celebrities in saying "Thank you, President Obama."

4) Forests: Keeping Roadless Areas Roadless
Keep Roadless Areas RoadlessEight years ago today, the Roadless Area Conservation Rule went into effect, protecting more than 58 million acres of wild national forests from road building, logging and other harmful development. Thanks to this rule, and despite attacks on the rule from the Bush administration, vital habitat for 1,500 wildlife species, drinking water supplies for 60 million Americans and quality recreation for millions of hikers, fishermen and hunters has been protected. As we move into the coming year, it’s essential that we continue to protect vulnerable roadless areas, like Alaska’s Tongass National Forest from development.
