Dear President Obama and Prime Minister Harper:
When you meet in Ottawa, I urge your leadership on stimulating the economy by moving aggressively on green energy and transportation solutions that curb global warming. The future we want means moving away from trade in dirty fuels and towards solutions such as a low carbon fuel standard, electric cars, public transportation, energy efficiency, and wind and solar power.
Tar sands development is a step backwards. It has been called the most destructive project on earth because of the excessive global warming pollution it produces, the way its toxic mining operations devastate the Boreal forest, and its violations of human rights and health.
Both the U.S. and Canada have vast potential in clean energy and green economic solutions. Let's build a relationship between the two countries on the foundation of hope for the future, and not on the short-sighted sale of dirty tar sands oil.
Sincerely,
[Your name] [Your address]
