Forward On Climate Rally - Photo Gallery

On February 17, several hundred people gathered at Denver’s Civic Center Park to
demand action on climate change and to oppose the Keystone XL pipeline. In solidarity
with tens of thousands who gathered in Washington DC, they made their voices heard
at the Forward On Climate Rally, sponsored by the Sierra Club, 350.org and other
Native Americans lead a parade through downtown from the Auraria Campus to the rally
site. Xiuhtezcatl Roske-Martinez, 12, spoke eloquently for the younger and indigenous
activists and introduced other speakers. He and his brother Izcuauhtli entertained the
crowd with environmental-themed raps.
The Sierra Club, along with other groups, had petitions for the crowd to sign, and passed
out t-shirts, buttons and posters. Some creative folks brought home-made posters to
express their concerns.
A highlight of the event was the “human oil spill.” Black-clad protesters laid down in
the middle of the park to demonstrate the dangers of out-of-control petroleum production.
Civic Center’s Greek Theater was a beautiful venue for the event.
