Call to protect our wildlands!

This week, after months of doing nothing on public lands, the House is expected to consider a series of bills that would cause significant damage to our nation's wildlife and wild lands. These bills, H.R. 3590, H.R. 3964 and H.R. 2954, undermine landmark environmental legislation and would harm national parks, seashores and wilderness areas.

Talking Points:

Dear Representative:
I am calling to urge you to vote against three bad public lands bills that will come up for a floor vote this week. These bills, H.R. 3590, H.R. 3964 and H.R. 2954, undermine landmark environmental legislation and would harm national parks, seashores and wilderness areas.

The Sportsmen's Heritage and Recreation Act, H.R. 3590, undermines the Wilderness Act by exempting all national wildlife refuge management decisions from public disclosure under the National Environmental Policy Act, even exempting the hunters and anglers mentioned in the bill's title.

The Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley Emergency Water Delivery Act, H.R. 3964, is an inappropriate and unjustified response to the California drought. It would override Endangered Species Act (ESA) protections in the Bay-Delta and shut down the San Joaquin River Restoration Program.

The third bill, H.R. 2954, is a package of legislation that would harm our national parks and seashores. The bill would overturn a multi-year National Park Service process that has resulted in balanced provisions that protect threatened piping plover shorebirds and endangered nesting sea turtles while preserving the economic health of the community at Cape Hatteras National Seashore. HR 2954 would also eliminate or delay timely reviews of grazing leases necessary to ensure sound conservation of species like the imperiled greater sage-grouse, and includes a bill to expedite salvage logging in the Rim Fire area of northern California overriding NEPA and administrative and judicial review.

I strongly urge you to oppose H.R. 3590, H.R. 3964 and H.R. 2954, a trio of bills that collectively would weaken protections for some of America's most special places and undermine landmark environmental laws.

Thank you for your consideration.
