“Net metering” standards determine whether utilities have a monopoly on producing and selling power, or if individuals and small businesses can participate. Revisions to the net metering standards will create green jobs, promote economic development, and give business and homeowners more choices in energy supply. Let the commission hear from you - as an individual, an entrepreneur, a responsible North Carolinian - and help usher in a sustainable energy future right here in NC. In access to the power grid for small companies and renewable energy providers, North Carolina ranks as one of the worst states in the country. Here in NC, grid access is largely determined by 'net metering,' a set of rules administered by the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
