A note from our Chapter Director:
New Hampshire Sierra Club is a non-profit member-supported, public interest organization that promotes conservation of New Hampshire's natural environment by influencing public policy decisions—legislative, administrative, legal, and electoral.
Please use our website as a resource and come often.  We are currently updating this website so expect to find more and more valuable information with every visit.  Thank you and keep coming back!

Sincerely,

Take Action Today

Clean Energy Future Campaign

New Hampshire Sierra Club is working to enforce Clean Air Compliance at Merrimack Station, the coal-fired power plant near Concord owned by Public Service Company of New Hampshire (PSNH) that produces over 3.5 million tons of carbon, over 32,000 tons of acid rain causing sulfur dioxide, almost 5,000 tons of smog forming nitrogen oxides and around 130 pounds of mercury, a neurotoxin, every year.

Last year, PSNH replaced the largest turbine at Merrimack Station without a public process or a determination by the state of Clean Air Act compliance.  In an effort to address these possible Clean Air Act violations, New Hampshire Sierra Club filed an appeal to a PSNH construction permit earlier this year.  To date, the appeal process by the Air Resources Council has been marred by nondisclosure of conflicts of interests by the appointed members and other procedural missteps.  Further, the coal plant has been generating electricity without the proper federal operating permit, called a Title V Permit, for the past 13 years.  The state agency only recently issued a Draft Title V Permit after New Hampshire Sierra Club, with over 1000 signatures of supporters and members, inquired about its absence.

Take A Gardening Survey from UNH Cooperative Extension

The UNH Cooperative Extension is conducting a needs assesment for more shared gardening space in the Greater Manchester area and garden programing.

The survey is simple, and can be filled out in 5 minutes.  Everyone knows that gardening can be a fun, healthy activity for all people; but that sometimes there is a lack of knowledge, space and time.  The UNH Cooperative Extension is assesing the greatest needs and barriers to getting our community out in the garden growing healthy food.

UNH Cooperatvie Extension would like to promote more gardening in the community and start new gardens - but first we need to know where and how.

Take the survey!
