YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK
Sponsor Yellowstone National ParkHelp us keep the mining interests, the snowmobile lobby, and the energy companies from sacrificing the wonders of this park to their pocketbooks. The more Sponsors we have, the more powerful we can be in ensuring that Yellowstone and its surrounding wildlands remain intact for future generations. About Yellowstone National ParkEstablished in 1872, Yellowstone was the world’s first national park, and is still one of the largest remaining vestiges of American wilderness in the lower 48 states. An incredibly diverse place, Yellowstone is home to:
Yellowstone at RiskWhen Lewis and Clark explored the West, as many as 100,000 grizzly bears roamed the land from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Coast, but today fewer than 1,500 remain. In addition, over the years, the Park’s ecosystem has faced an increasing number of threats including: energy development, mining, logging, global warming, suburban sprawl, air pollution and decreasing wildlife populations. Sierra Club and YellowstoneThe Sierra Club has worked to protect the Yellowstone region for nearly 100 years; opposing damaging plans for logging, oil and gas development, and geothermal energy development adjacent to the park; defending Yellowstone’s wolves and grizzly bears in the courts; and advocating for the removal of all private snowmobiles from the park in favor of “snowcoaches” which have significantly less impact on air quality, habitat disturbance and water pollution.
