The huge number of cars crowding into Yosemite Valley is threatening to ruin the experience for everyone. We need to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution and help keep Yosemite wild and beautiful by promoting the use of convenient shuttles within the Park. About Yosemite

Once called “the most beautiful place on Earth” by Theodore Roosevelt, today Yosemite still remains an  incredibly diverse wild place.  Attracting millions photographers, artists, rock climbers, hikers, and sightseers each year, Yosemite is home to:

• Over 90 species of mammals, 250 bird species, and an astonishing 1,460 species of plants.
• Granite domes, towering peaks and sparkling mountain lakes.

In addition, the Park provides an unparalleled resource that helps visitors develop an appreciation for nature and learn how to protect the environment.

Sierra Club and Yosemite

Yosemite National Park has always been a place of special significance to the Sierra Club. When the Sierra Club began in 1892, its first order of business was to defeat a proposal to reduce the boundaries of Yosemite Park. The Club’s efforts helped transition the park from state to federal management, ensuring full protection for Yosemite as a National Park.

In 1904, the LeConte Memorial Lodge was built by the Sierra Club and today still serves as an educational resource for the public, by providing information about the Park and increasing awareness of environmental issues.
