The National Park Service (NPS) has released its final proposal for managing winter use in Yellowstone. The proposed rule is on the right track, but the Park Service and Superintendent Dan Wenk are backpedaling on their commitment to make wintertime in the park cleaner, quieter, and safer.
The NPS and Superintendent Wenk are now questioning whether the very protections that they deemed Yellowstone needs in their own recent analyses should be dropped, delayed or not required of all snowmobiles.
The NPS must hear from us before it is too late -- we only have until June 17 to make our voices heard!
Tell the National Park Service to stand by its commitment to make Yellowstone cleaner and quieter and to protect its unique winter landscape.
Dear Superintendent Wenk,
I applaud your oft-stated commitment to making Yellowstone cleaner and quieter in winter, and your proposals for stricter noise and emissions requirements for snowcoaches and snowmobiles. I also strongly support your proposal to limit vehicle speeds to 35 mph on all transportation routes.
However, I am very concerned about the proposed rule's backsliding in several areas which you have deemed are the foundation of making Yellowstone cleaner and quieter. This makes no sense and flies in the face of your own analyses. Yellowstone deserves no less than the highest protections.

Additionally, I wish to state my opposition to allowing non-commercially guided snowmobiles in the park. The requirement that all snowmobile users be with a professional guide has been instrumental in reducing harassment of wildlife and increasing visitor safety. Please do not drop this requirement.
