The Georgia Chapter

Clean EnergyWe have a unique opportunity in Georgia to transition to a clean energy economy in 2010. A transition to a clean energy economy would help create thousands of jobs along with the environmental benefits to Georgia’s beautiful lands. Those changes in how we receive our energy would certainly be integral to working positively on climate change. As we continue to work on climate change in Georgia we will need your help. With our work we can continue to work for cleaner air and demand state leaders address global warming – but we need your help.

Clean Solar EnergyWith your help we plan to continue our fight to stop coal plants and offer clean energy alternatives. Our work at the State level is the only thing holding back two proposed giant new coal burning power plants using 19th century technology in Georgia. Together these plants would use 33 million gallon of water a day out of Georgia’s Chattahoochee and Oconee Rivers. If these two coal plants go forward they will dampen the market for efficiency and renewables at a time when Georgia should be expanding those markets.

Our staff and volunteers are working hard to help Georgia transition to a clean energy future, to protect the places you love, and to make sure your family has a healthy, safe Georgia to call home. We are deeply grateful for your partnership in this work, and we hope you’ll take a very significant step forward by supporting us even further. These are ambitious projects, but we can’t do it alone. We need your support to succeed!

Outings
Georgia Sierra Club outings are open to members and non-members alike. A few outings may require membership, but most do not. There is no charge, although outings leaders may solicit a nominal voluntary donation to support the program.

SC OutingsPart of the largest grassroots environmental organization in the country, Sierra Club Outings provides high-quality outdoor adventures—exploring all over Georgia—for people of all ages, abilities, and interests. The most amazing part of the outings program are the volunteer leaders who scout, plan, and lead all of our outings. Nobody pays them for their efforts. Rather, they do it out of a sheer love for the land.

Join the Georgia Chapter at Sweetwater Creek on January 1st for a dayhike at the next Sierra Club Georgia outing. Click here for more information.
