The new edition of Coming Clean by Michael Brune is now available! Coming Clean, Again
Wondering where the country's headed after the latest election results? There's no reason we can't keep moving toward a clean-energy future and away from dirty energy. When Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune wrote Coming Clean: Breaking America's Addiction to Oil and Coal, he laid out a clear and practical vision for how our country could do exactly that. Now, in the wake of the worst oil spill in American history and the worst recession since the 1930s, that vision has even more urgency.

Today, Sierra Club Books is proud to publish a new, updated edition of Coming Clean. In it, Brune describes what he saw when he visited the Gulf of Mexico after the oil disaster, and outlines what we can do right now -- both individually and as a nation -- to free ourselves from fossil fuels once and for all.

For a special Insider discount, enter the code CLEAN when you order Coming Clean from the Sierra Club Books website.

This Veteran's Day, take a moment to honor those who serve. Honoring Those Who Serve
This week the Sierra Club will celebrate Veterans Day with special activities honoring our past, present, and future service members. Events include green-jobs training, an awards ceremony, and a day of trail work in Seattle.

"Whether by preparing veterans for jobs in the green economy through home weatherization training, or by giving them an opportunity to acclimate to civilian life with a backpacking trip, the Sierra Club salutes our veterans every day," said Sierra Club National Youth and Special Projects Director Martin LeBlanc.

You can learn more about the Sierra Club's work with military personnel and their families here.

Read more about Shelton Johnson and his camping trip with Oprah Winfrey! Camping with Oprah
When Oprah Winfrey made a surprise camping trip to Yosemite, it may have been the biggest media event in the park since Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir posed together at Glacier Point.

Oprah decided to make the trip after receiving an impassioned letter from park ranger (and Sierra Club Books author) Shelton Johnson about his frustration that so few people of color visit our national parks.

When Oprah arrived, Shelton was there to welcome her, introduce her to the famous Giant Grizzly sequoia, and explain how to keep her s'mores fixings from attracting hungry bears and paparazzi. No word on whether Shelton's novel, Gloryland, will ever be selected for You-Know-Who's Book Club, but no need to wait -- you can order a copy now and learn what it was like to be a buffalo solider in Yosemite.

Talk about staying power! Twenty-seven years after Sierra Club activists Angel and Tom Kruzen started fighting the expansion of lead mining into the Scenic River watersheds of the Missouri Ozarks, the EPA has announced that Doe Run, the country's largest lead producer, will pay $65 million to correct environmental violations at ten of its mining, milling, and smelting facilities.
