Millions of Americans live near major roads, and all that vehicle pollution can lead to asthma and other health problems. There is a solution. The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed cleaner tailpipe standards that would lower the sulfur content in gasoline, reduce air pollution, save lives, and create jobs through new technology. But Big Oil doesn't want to spend that extra penny per gallon, and is putting their private profit ahead of our public health.

Their weather couldn't be more different, but Hawaiians and Minnesotans all love clean energy. The two states are celebrating recent state-level clean energy victories.

Hawaii just passed a first-of-its kind clean-energy financing measure that will make it easy for residents to go green and install clean energy, while saving some green at the same time. The Sierra Club and a coalition of environmental and labor groups championed the measure, which will reduce the upfront costs of solar energy and energy-efficiency for residents and small businesses.

Up in Minnesota, the state legislature just passed a clean energy bill that includes a strong solar power standard, a plan on how to move the state beyond fossil fuels, and much more. Learn more in Beyond Coal Director Mary Anne Hitt's column.
