Dear
Fellow Sierran
Here's what's in this week's edition of CoolCATs Weekly:
1) The Cat's Out of the Bag
2) Biotech Above the Law?
3) The Eco-Barbecue
1) The Cat's Out of the Bag
|
The AP's Seth Borenstein finally came out and said what we already know: "if you want a glimpse of some of the worst of global warming, take a look at U.S. weather in recent weeks." Hopefully, this article will be the start of more honest treatment of climate change in the main stream press. As fatalities and damage from climate change mount and accelerate, we no longer have the time to waste arguing over whether the phenomenon is real or not.

2) Biotech Above the Law?
|
Congress is quietly trying to give unprecedented amnesty to large biotech companies like Monsanto in the new Agriculture appropriations bill. With a rider called the "farmer's assurance program," the House would allow these companies to push forward with genetically modifying plants and other lifeforms despite regulation put in place to stop them. Read more about this horrendous plan here.

3) Eco-Barbecue
|
On June 30th, the Chapter held its first annual Eco-BBQ with great success. Kevin Proft, one of our outings leaders, summed it up here. While at the barbecue, Kevin also treated us to a presentation on the new single stream recycling program. Lucklily, I was able to film the talk, and you can watch on our Facebook page.
